The Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has reiterated the resolve of her administration to position the institution on the sub-region pedestal by emerging as the best in West Africa.
The Vice-Chancellor told the World Bank team, which visited her, on Monday, at the Conference Room, Vice Chancellor’s office, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.
The Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) Impact team was in LASU to evaluate and take stock of what the Africa Centre of Excellence For Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (ACEITSE) had done so far.
In her opening remarks to the team, Professor Olatunji-Bello noted, “ACEITSE is critical to the objective of internationalisation of our university and our goal of becoming the best in West Africa. We are committed to this goal, aspiration and impact project. Under my watch, the university will continue to sustain, and uphold the academic and administrative performance of this centre”.
Speaking further, she recognised the supervisory role of the team, in coming to see what the centre was doing, for improvement.
She described the move as the right step, in the right direction and gave her word that the University Management would give the team its unflinching support.
“The university is used to accreditation of programmes. This is not new to us and I assure you, you will not be disappointed.
She ended her remarks by praising the centre for playing a key role, in terms of capacity building, not only to the registered students of the centre, but, to others as well as the staff, since it was established in 2018 and stated that her administration had been supporting the centre and would continue to do so.
She thanked the leadership and staff of the centre for their efforts.
In his response, the leader of the World Bank team, Subject Matter Expert, Dr. Dimitrios Noukakis, informed that the mission of the team at the centre was to check its activities, assist it to make progress, meet set objectives and deliver on its mandate.
He ended by saying he was enthusiastic and looked forward to working with the centre.
The National Coordinator of the project, Dr. Joshua Attah’s message was delivered by the Deputy Director and Project Management Officer, Mr. Peter Tobrise.
He made it known that the project would end in June 2024 and not sure if the project would be extended beyond the terminal date, saying that the centre should make more progress on its activities.
The World Bank project team would be at the ACEITSE, LASU for a few days to take a look at its activities since it was established
Principal officers at the visit include the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu and the University Librarian, Dr. Layi Adebayo.
