The Lagos Education District V has emerged as champion in this year’s festival of chorale and classical music.
The district clinched the first position with Education District VI and IV taking the second and third positions, respectively.
For the solo performances, Education District III emerged first while District V and District VI took the second and third positions.
In her keynote address, Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo was full of commendation for the excellent performances of the students.
Adefisayo, in a statement by Ganiu Lawal, Assistant Director, Public Affairs Ministry of Education, ” It is a beautiful time away from the academics to see you showcase innate talent in music, it further exemplifies the essence of co- curricula aspect of education, the soloists warmed our hearts as they entertained, it is the brilliant participation that matters most “.
Similarly, the Tutor-General, Permanent Secretary, Education District III, Dr. Mrs. Olufunke Oyetola in an opening remark on behalf of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, restated the significance of the annual programme, saying, “We will continue to encourage the pupils and students to polish their talents in other aspects, it shouldn’t be limited to classroom studies”.
The presentation by the state school chorale and orchestra opened the performances after which students from the various education districts across the state participated in a most interesting 2-format presentation, first in Choral and the Solo presentation.
Special performances by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB Choir, Lagos State Technical Vocational Education Board, LASTVEB and the CMS Grammar School team set the hall into a frenzy singing classics like Christy Essien ‘s ‘ Omo’ mi seun ‘rere and Ksa’s ‘Aimasiko’ laced with sonorous voices and jazzy violin notes.
Both judges, who are seasoned musicologists, commended the State Ministry of education for ensuring the continuity of the annual event saying, “we have seen the best of raw, untapped talents here, we urge the teachers and students not to rest on their oars”.
Trophies for outstanding performances and certificates of participation were presented to district representatives by the Commissioner, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji and the Tutor-General, Permanent Secretary, District three, Dr. Mrs. Oyetola.
The Colorful music festival is a core part of the Co-Curricular services division, of the Ministry of Education.
