Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), one of the newest universities in Nigeria, has presented 32 programnes in five different colleges for the National university commission (NUC) resource verification exercise, Platforms Africa reports.
The resource verification, this leading Africa-focus media group gathered exclusively, assesses the human and materials available to kick start academic activities in a university This usually precedes program accreditation, which will come much later after the institution has fully taken off.
32 programmes at a time for a new university is not the norm but for the reason being that LASUSTECH is not entirely starting new. It is an existing institution ( Polytechnic) transmuting into a university.
According to the NUC team lead, Dr. Victoria Pillah; “The institution established over four decades and has metamorphosised from a college of science and technology to a Polytechnic and now to a university is a well-grounded institution.”
The Acting Vice-chancellor, Dr. Oluremi Nurudeen Olaleye, while reacting during the NUC exit interview, commended the NUC team for a job well done and assured that all observations are well noted for the right actions immediately.
The acting VC appreciated the support of the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu whom he described as the visionary and the executionist of the transmutation process.
He said; “I’m so grateful to Mr. Governor for his commitment to the development of the university”. He equally appreciated the special adviser on education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab for his unwavering support for the institution.
However, the report of the verification team is expected in a month. Meanwhile, the institution is open for the admission of the first set of candidates to 32 different programmes come 2022/2023 academic session.
