ASUU/Bayelsa Varsity Suspends Strike

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Niger Delta University (NDU) chapter has lauded the leadership of the union for its commitment and resilience throughout the eight months of the suspended nationwide strike.
Recall the national secretariat of ASUU declared nationwide strike  on February 14, 2022 and called it off on October 14, 2022.
The ASUU-NDU made the commendation while announcing the suspension of the strike with effect from Monday, October 17, 2022.
The decision was taken at an emergency congress held by the NDU branch on Monday.
This was contained in a communique jointly signed by the ASUU-NDU chairman and the secretary, Tonbara Kingdom and Ebi Baraka, which was made available to Education Roadmap on Tuesday.
It reads: “This is to announce the suspension of the total, comprehensive and indefinite strike embarked upon by the National Executive Council of our Union, with effect from Monday, 17th October 2022;
“To commend the leadership and members of the Union for their resilience, steadfastness and courage during the period of the strike lasted.”
The union, however, stated that it will observe whether the Bayelsa State government would sufficiently resolve the lingering issues with the NDU branch to avoid local industrial disharmony.
“To observe to see whether the Bayelsa State Government will adequately address the lingering issues with the branch to avert local further action,” the union stated.
