The Ogun State Coordinator of
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Mr. Abdulhakeem Balogun, has identified wrong subject combination as one of the major reasons why many candidates miss out on admissions into higher institutions.
He, however, counselled parents and guardians to desist from imposing particular courses on their children as this could jeopardize their future.
The State Coordinator stated this at an education fair organised by a co-educational secondary school, Trinity International College, Ofada, Ogun State.
The forum was designed to prepare students for the 2023/2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTME).
Mr. Balogun, while reiterating the
Board’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice used the platform to extensively explain the right approach for picking the right subject combination while applying for admission.
Furthermore, he advised parents and guardians to regularly visit the Boards website for further clarifications on any issue regarding admission and stop
patronising touts, who more often ended up extorting and misleading
them.
Responding, the school Registrar, Mrs. Boyede Adebayo described the Central Admissions Processing System(CAPS) introduced by the Board in 2017 as an effective mechanism for eliminating
admission racketeering, restore fairness, integrity, credibility to the admission process.
Elated by the detailed tutorials on
procedures for avoiding pitfalls during UTME registration, a parent, Mr. David Effiong applauded the State Office for the painstaking exercise and canvassed that the advocacy be replicated in all secondary schools across the Federation.
