Africa Centre Of Excellence Critical To LASU’s Pursuit As Best In West Africa – Vc Tells New Student
The Vice-Chancellor, of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has reiterated the institution’s desire of becoming the best University in West Africa, saying that the Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (ACEITSE) was critical to achieving this goal.
The Vice-Chancellor said this during an orientation programme for newly admitted (Masters and Ph.D.) students of the centre on Wednesday, 26th October, 2022.
The Deputy VC, (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo represented Professor Olatunji-Bello at the event, which had international students as well as their national counterparts in attendance.
The orientation programme took place at the ACEITSE conference hall, main campus, Ojo, Lagos.
“The Lagos State University ACEITSE Programme is very critical to our objective of internationalization and the quest to make our University the best, in West Africa. That is why we take very important this orientation and indeed everything that has to do with the ACEITSE”, Professor Olatunji-Bello stated as she delivered her opening remarks.
TheVC reiterated the commitment of the management to the goals and aspirations of the ACE-Impact project and assured that the University would continue to sustain it as well as improve the academic and administrative performance of the Centre.
Professor Olatunji-Bello applauded the strides of the centre since its establishment in 2018, adding that it has continued to play a key role in capacity building, not only for students registered with the centre, but also for other students and staff of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor assured the centre of the University Management’s support, which it has always done, which includes facilitating the appointment of an ACEITSE Consultant, provision of a befitting lodge on the main campus for the international students, and support for accreditation efforts, amongst others.
While rounding off her opening remarks, she opined that the programme marks the commencement of an academic calendar, with the set of international students of the centre, studying full-time on the campus. He urged them to settle down, mix with their counterparts from other countries as well as take full advantage of studying with other nationals.
Besides, she urged the students to take note and make use of all the information and regulations presented to them, to have a successful academic life and thanked the leadership of the centre for putting together the orientation programme.
The Director/Centre Leader, Prof. Rasheed Sanni, in his closing remarks called on the students to harken to all that the Vice Chancellor reeled out in her opening speech.
He assured the students of their safety and averred that the centre would make their welfare a top priority.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the Management team for gracing the occasion.
The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu and the University Librarian, Dr. Layi Adebayo were principal officers at the event.
