Department Of Science, Technology Education, ACEITSE Collaborate, Host STAN Lagos Branch
… To Strengthen On Research, Training And Human Capacity Development
The Department of Science and Technology Education, Faculty of Education in collaboration with Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (ACEITSE), Lagos State University (LASU) hosted the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Lagos branch.
The courtesy visit which held at the ACEITSE Secretariat, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, was aimed at engendering collaborating on research, training and human capacity development.
Addressing participants at the event, the Chairman Lagos STAN Branch, Mr. Akintunde Adeyanju said the visit was aimed to familiarize the STAN Educators with the STEM Educators and to create a synergy between both parties.
“We are seeking a way forward by bringing the country to the limelight and leverage on science education in this part of the world.”
The Centre Leader, ACEITSE, Prof. Rasheed Sanni, represented by the Deputy Centre Leader, Dr. Akintoye in his address explained the objectives of ACEITSE, the programmes it runs, some of its achievements and averred that the Centre is committed to producing innovative and transformative master teachers who will inspire learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
He assured representatives of STAN Lagos of their support and willingness to work with them to achieve a common goal.
“Going forward ACEITSE is ready to welcome the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) to Lagos State University, LASU, and we equally use this opportunity to appreciate the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji – Bello, for the support being enjoyed by the Centre under her administration.”
The Head, Department of Science and Technology Education, Dr. Akindoju Olugbenga Gabriel also toed the path of ACEITSE, Centre Leader by assuring the STAN team of the University’s support at all times.
Participants engaged in robust discussion as a means of charting new frontiers for sustainable growth and rewarding partnership.
The Assistant Director, Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSED), Dr. Musa Ajisegiri was also a part of the meeting.
The Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Afina S. A represented the Deputy Registrar and Centre Secretary, Mr. Tosin Sodiq.
The Deputy Director, ACEITSE, Dr. Dorcas Wusu gave the closing remarks at the end of the meeting.
The event was attended by some members from the Department of Science and Technology Education, some Postgraduate students from the Department, Science Educators and Representatives from ACEITSE
