7,554 graduates of Nigeria’s premier institution, the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) bag the National and Higher National Diplomas during the college’s 34th convocation.
The Rector of the College, Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe announced this at a press conference that was held at the Senate Chamber of the institution to announce activities for the College’s 34th joint convocation.
The Rector explained that the joint convocation for the graduating class of 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic
Sessions will witness the presentation of the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and the Higher National Diploma (HND) to deserving graduates of the College found worthy in learning and character, saying the pandemic was responsible for the 3 combined events in one.
He announced that the week-long programme that will have the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu as the distinguished guest of honour, will commence on Friday, November 18, 2022 with the Jumat Service at 1.30 p.m and an inter-denominational thanksgiving service on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at 4:00 p.m.

Omokungbe, whose tenure will end soon, said the College since inception has produced graduates who are in enviable positions
in all works of life, both public and private sectors and have contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of the nation.
He said, “From the engineering fields, through to Science and Technology, the built environment through to the Fields of Management and recently, in the fields of Agriculture and Mass Communication, these graduates of Yaba College of Technology are making significant impacts in the march towards the industrial

“In pursuit of our focal points, the College under this current administration has continued to advance in strides towards achieving academic excellence.
He highlighted some of the modest achievements and progress recorded to include a fairly stable academic calendar and standards despite the COVID-19 Pandemic which
almost grounded activities globally.
“We have improved on physical infrastructure in both in Epe and Yaba Campuses of the College. We have completed all the inherited projects and have initiated the construction of new projects, including major re-habitation of our hostels and classrooms.
“Improved capacity building over three hundred (300) staff were
sponsored for training, workshops and conferences apart from those on TETFund sponsorship.
“Commissioned a water factory project for the product of Yabatech bottled water, set up a radio station, 89.3 FM.
He added, “The College was ranked as the best Polytechnic in Nigeria on 3 occasions by Webometric ranking.
“The College was selected as a TETFund Center of Excellence and as an i-hub Center by UNESCO-UNECV0C. The College is also one of the two (2) institutions selected for TVET in Africa,” Omikungbe added.
Other expected guests at the ceremony are the Chairman of the Council, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Members of the Council, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Officials of the Federal Ministry
of Education, visiting Heads of Sister Institutions, College Fellows and the Alumni Association.
