World Bank, NUC Teams Arrive For UNILAG-SPESSECE Assessment

A World Bank and National Universities Commission (NUC) teams have arrived the University of Lagos, Nigeria for an on-the-spot evaluation of the UNILAG Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (UNILAG-SPESSECE).

On arrival in the University, the team which included Dr. Maged Hamed and Dr. Ahmed C. Abdullahi of the World Bank; Dr Sherif Arib, World Bank Consultant as well as Dr. Obi Ukwuagu, Yvonne Orekyeh, Onyinye Akauba; Simi Sophia Gwom and Suleman Babayo of National Universities Commission (NUC) were led to the Senate House Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folashade T. Ogunsola, by the UNILAG-SPESSECE Centre leader, Dr. James Akanmu.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Bolanle Oboh who received the visitors, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, expressed excitement at the level of success recorded by the UNILAG-SPESSECE.

According to her, the Centre has completed a number of courses in Track A and B, the university has also approved the centre’s Bachelor’s degree and Postgraduate programmes just as the Centre has facilities for onsite and online leaning.

Professor Oboh reiterated the University’s commitment to ensuring the centre’s sustenance, even after the expiration of the World Bank grants.

She urged the team to take a tour of the University, to enjoy its ambiance and hospitality.

Thereafter, she presented the University’s token of goodwill to the team, and group photographs were taken.

The UNILAG Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (UNILAG-SPESSECE) is one of the Six SPESSECE hub spread across the country with support from the World Bank.

SPESSECE which is a multi-sectional project covers areas such as training, professionalization and research in Procurement, Environmental and Social standard.
