The Acting Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christy Uba has implored corps members to exhibit a great measure of commitment, dedication and responsibility wherever they are deployed.
The NYSC boss made this call in a keynote address to mark the closing of the orientation course for the 2022 Batch ‘C’Stream II Lagos and Ogun Corps Members at the ceremony held at the Permanent Orientation camp in Sagamu.
Mrs. Uba, in an address delivered by the Ogun State Coordinator of the scheme, Mrs. Winifred Ngozi Shokpeka, urged them to be good ambassadors and role models to the NYSC scheme, their respective families and the institution of graduation.
Speaking further, Uba urged corps employers to mentor corps members deployed to their organizations or establishments to enable them to develop their capacity and potential.
She reminded them of the fact that the scheme does not confer immunity on its members from legal consequences, wrongdoing and advised them to always remain law-abiding and of good conduct at all times.
The Ag. Director-General also said that management remains committed to making adequate provisions for the safety and security of all Corps Members in the country, saying that the scheme is in liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to address their essential needs in any given service year.
Besides, she acknowledged the receipt of impressive reports of the Corps Members’ participation in the entrepreneurial training of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
She urged them to build on the skills already acquired on camp by availing themselves of further opportunities for post-camp training, as this will go a long way in empowering them to be self-reliant.
Uba, who warned again boarding commercial vehicles in unauthorized motor parks and night travels, advised Corps Members to undertake personal and group Community Development Service projects that will help to add value to the living standard of their host communities.
She added, ” I urge you to avoid using social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred. Instead, your activities online should be targeted at self-improvement as well as the promotion of the unity, peace and development of our dear country. In the same vein, avoid being speculative on issues affecting the NYSC and, instead, visit our website, social media platforms and other official channels for clarifications.”
The highlight of the closing ceremonies which also featured the ceremonial parade was the distribution of posting letters to the corps member.
