The Acting Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, Mrs. Christy Uba has urged the corps employers to mentor the Mrs.Uba deployed to their organizations or establishment to enable them to develop their capacity and potential.
Uba made this call in a keynote address delivered by the Coordinator of NYSC Imo State, Mrs. Rachel Idaewor at the closing of the orientation course for the 2022 Batch ‘C’Stream II Corps Members deployed to the state held at the permanent orientation camp in Eziama Obaire.
Speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Uba implored the members to exhibit a great measure of commitment, dedication and responsibility, urging them to be good ambassadors or role models to the NYSC scheme, their respective families and the institution of graduation. She equally reminded them of the fact that the scheme does not confer immunity on its members from legal consequences and wrongdoing, advising them to always remain law-abiding and of good conduct at all times.
The Ag. Director-General also said that management remains committed to making adequate provisions for the safety and security of all Corps Members in the country, stating that the scheme is in liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to address their essential needs in any given service year.
Besides, she affirmed the receipt of impressive reports of the Corps Members’ participation in the entrepreneurial training of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
She urged them to build on the skills already acquired on camp, by availing themselves of further opportunities for post-camp training, as this will go a long way in empowering them to be self-reliant.
Furthermore, she advised Corps Members to undertake personal and group Community Development Service projects that will help to add value to the living standard of members of their host communities.
