The Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents of Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo, on Friday in Ota, Ogun State, announced that the University would soon commence Law and Medical programmes.
Dr. Oyedepo made this known while responding to a plea by the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (MBA), Mr. Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) during the University’s 17th Convocation which was held at the institution’s chapel.
Yakubu in his goodwill message at the ceremony had observed that the University was not running a law programme and pleaded with both management of the university to introduce the course and the National Universities Commission (NUC) to grant the application.
In his response, Oyedepo assured that the processes for the commencement of the two programmes would commence in the first quarter of the year with requisite financial backing for the projects.
Earlier, the Chancellor in his message to the graduating 2022 class, urged them take responsibility in order not to become a liability in the future.
According to Dr. Oyedepo,” “Responsibility is all about efficient self, time, task and resource management. According to George Washington, “Discipline is the
sole of an army. It makes small numbers formidable, it procures success for the weak and esteem for all.
“We believe that it takes high-level discipline to fully deliver any given task and be accomplished in the
race of life. ”
He encouraged the graduating students to be bold and take responsibility as everyone will be responsible for his or her future.
The Chancellor said what comes to the mind determines what tomorrow will be by simply doing what is right and creative without wasting time.
“Be poised to take responsibility. No one goes forward by sitting down. Commitment to vision comes with responsibility. Some students say they take coffee to stay awake, some say they take kola nut to stay awake and prepare for examinations. I told them I take responsibility to stay awake.”
He lamented that failure to take responsibility has wrecked the lives of many promising individuals that are still being fed by their parents at 40, adding that feeding bottles are not meant for adults.
He bemoaned situations where an estimated 80 percent of children of successful people are not prosperous because they failed to take responsibility.
Oyedepo appealed to children whose parents are successful and others to take responsibility because the affluence and certificates attained by parents are not transferable.
