Following it’s emergence as winner of the Tertiary Institutions category of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Expo, Abuja 2023, the Lagos State University Centre of Excellence for Sargassum Research Team led by Distinguished Professor Martin Anetekhai, on Monday, 30th January 2023, visited the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and presented her the award plaque won at the exhibition.
The plaque was presented at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room in the presence of other members of the University Management.
The Centre Leader, Prof. Anetekhai, in his report, appreciated the Vice Chancellor for her continuous support that made the feat possible.
His words “…the assessment that brought about the victory was based on creativity, innovation, cost – effectiveness and efficiency, labelling, local raw material, content packaging and presentation, patent and contribution to the national economic growth and sustainable development,” he said.
He listed some of the products exhibited by the Centre to include animal feed (Sargassum-based quick feeds), Pharmaceuticals, Vitamin A and C, Blocks and Ceiling materials made from sargassum, amongst others.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed gratitude over the victory attained by the Centre, assuring that the Centre would continue to be supported by the University.
Prof. Olatunji – Bello, also encouraged the Centre to explore the option of acquiring a patent for their products by leveraging on the Intellectual Property Rights policy recently approved by the University Senate.
