The management of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has unfolded plans to invest in biogas technology.

In addition, the University is also taking advantage of its fertile land resources to invest in Commercial Agriculture.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina who disclosed this during the pre-press conference heralding activities lined up for the 7th Convocation ceremonies said the step became imperative to reduce the running cost.

Professor Fasina explained that the University was expending huge resources on power consumption due to the multi-campus system being operated by FUOYE.

He expressed optimism that the project when fully developed would supply power to the university and serve nine other communities where the institution is running part-time programmes.

The VC hinted that the current economic realities demanded that stakeholders think outside the box to pull through.

Fasina urged his management team members to always think about what they can give back to the institution to make the University world-class.

According to him, the institution under his management had become one of the most sought-after in Nigeria due to a stable academic calendar and great feats in scholarship.

According to him ” FUOYE is the 5th most subscribed university in the country in the 2021/2022 academic session with over 45,000 admission seekers.

“In the 2022/2023 academic session, we had over 53,000 admission seekers subscribing to FUOYE”.

On the convocation, the VC said 3,914 graduands will be awarded various degrees.

Giving the breakdown, the VC said 91 students would be graduating with first-class honours while 1423 with second-class upper division, and 1,845 with second-class lower division.

Fasina also said that legal icon Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), former Managing Director/ CEO of the First Bank Plc, Mr. Stephen Bisi Onansanya and former captain of the Super Eagles, Chief Segun Odegbami are to be conferred with honourary degrees at the academic event slated for Saturday, February 11.

The VC who outlined the list of graduating students said a total of 21 would earn Doctorate, Masters 79 and Postgraduate diploma 3 during the convocation.

He said the institution which started with 512 students in 2011 now has over 40, 000 students from across 11 faculties with 74 programmes.

“We have a part-time programme in 9 towns across Ekiti State and we have been enjoying industrial harmony in the last two years.
