As part of the ongoing life-saving effort to save more lives of victims involved in the train/bus accident, the authority of the Lagos State University (LASU) has appealed to the staff of the institution to donate blood for the accident victims.
Recall that a luxurious passenger bus conveying scores of passengers on Thursday was hit by an oncoming commercial train in the PWD area of the state resulting in the loss of lives while many occupants of the bus sustained various degrees of life-threatening injuries.
The appeal titled: “LASU Authority Calls On Willing Members Of Staff To Donate Blood” reads, “The Authority of Lagos State University hereby calls on willing members of staff to donate blood for victims involved in the unfortunate train/bus accident of Thursday, 9th March 2023. The accident was recorded in PWD area of Lagos State.
“Given the many casualties involved in the avoidable accident and the dire need for more donors to donate blood to save lives, the University Authority hereby appeals to willing members of staff to immediately contact the Director, Clinical Services, Prof. Adebowale Adekoya on 08033812199 or visit him at Lagos State University College of Medicine, (LASUCOM), Ikeja, Lagos.
“For emphasis, members of staff who are willing to voluntarily donate blood are requested to proceed on this life-saving mission.
The statement added,” Remember, if you donate blood, you might save a life. We Are LASU, We Are Great”.
However, following the unfortunate incident, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has since declared that the State is mourning and that all flags should be flown at half-mast.
Besides, the Governor has declared a half-day of work today Friday, 10th March 2023 for all civil servants.
“It is still a critical period for some of the patients as we continue to call for blood donations across different State government medical facilities. This is a call for our humanity to rise above all,” the Governor said.
