Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has assured the 34 pioneer medical students of University of Medical Sciences, Ondo(UNIMED) who have just completed their courses, that they would be absorbed into state-owned medical facilities.
The governor gave the assurance weekend at a special lunch organised for the fresh graduates by the Chief Medical Director of UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Dr. Oluwole Ige on the campus.
Represented by his Special Adviser(Health), Prof. Francis Faduyile, the governor explained that the absorption of the 34 graduates into the health sector of the state would boost healthcare delivery.
Akeredolu advised the beneficiary graduates to see the opportunity offered them as a rare privilege.
In his address, the CMD noted that the absorption of the 34 fresh graduates would reduce the human capital deficiency in the health sector of the nation.
Dr. Ige also disclosed that the Teaching Hospital has produced graduate nurses, physiotherapists and Medical Laboratory Scientists, among others in keeping with her mandate as a Teaching Hospital.
Besides, he said the institution had also successfully trained medical consultants in several fields of Medicine and Surgery as well as providing platform for training of health personnel for Federal University of Technology, Akure(FUTA) Medical School, Achievers University, Elizade University and Joseph Ayo Babalola University(JABU).
Addressing the graduates, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Michael Gbala encouraged them on the prospect and opportunities ahead of them if they decided to do their Housemanship at the Teaching Hospital.
He noted that their absorption would also afford them the opportunity to grow in the profession under the tutelage of their lecturers.
Dr. Gbala who appreciates the unrelenting efforts of the state government, management, staff and medical consultants of the Teaching Hospital at ensuring that the students got the best and able to finish their medical training at record time.
The Vice-Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi charged the students to be good ambassadors of the institution and keep learning.
He encouraged them to take the advantage of the opportunities that abound in the Teaching Hospital to train as specialists.
The Class Governor for the pioneer medical students, Oloyede Rasheed, who spoke on behalf of his mates, appreciated the school management for its support and thorough tutelage.
He assured the governor and management of the institution of their readiness to accept the job offer by the governor, promising that they would give their best just to sustain the best standard practice.
