The Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Centre (ESDC) at the University of Lagos is not easing up on its avowed mission to make enterprising solution providers out of every willing student of the university.
It further demonstrated this on Friday, April 14, 2023 with the graduation ceremony of the 2022 Cohort of the Transnational Entrepreneurship Course (TEC).
With the course, select First Class students across different departments of the university were trained for three months on the rudiments of Entrepreneurship and how it can be deployed to address societal challenges in a profitable manner.
Truly international in nature, the participants shared lessons with their counterparts in Senegal and the United States of America, drawn from the University of Senegal and the University of Iowa respectively.
They interacted physically and virtually, worked on case-study projects, and delivered on tasks that resulted in prototypes.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, had praiseful words for Professor Sunday Adebisi, Director of the ESDC, who she called a “big asset to the University of Lagos”.
She also commended the students for their interest in entrepreneurship, charging them to use what they have learned as motivation for giving back to society.
Her words: “From whatever angle you look at it, Nigeria has invested in you. It is now your turn to believe in yourselves and in the country too. I urge you to take everything you have learned from here and create successful businesses out of them. We will support and celebrate you.”
Mr. Oluwaseun Lawal, a 400-Level student of Economics was a participant in the course.
He enthused “We learned to move from idea conception to enterprise, and how to look at wicked problems and come up with scalable solutions”. He described the course as a “beautiful experience”.
Ms. Naomi Ogbeche, a 400-Level Business Administration student was another participant who described the course as “a tough and enlightening programme, which changed my mindset completely”.
The Transnational Entrepreneurship Course (TEC) is a programme jointly developed and delivered by Professor Sunday Adebisi of the University of Lagos and Professor Dimy Doresca of the University of Iowa, USA.
