As the Federal College of Education, Technical (FCET), Akoka marks a joint 38th convocation for five academic sessions, the 56-year-old College recorded an all-female best-graduating student for all the sessions.
The Provost of the College, Dr. Ademola Wahab Azeez disclosed this during the pre-convocation media parley which was held at the Council Chamber of the foremost college.
Dr. Azeez disclosed that a total of 6,195 graduates of the college that have satisfactorily met the conditions for the award of National Certificate in Education (NCE), Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) and Distance Learning Programme (DLP) would be presented diplomas in various fields of academic learning.
He stated, “Five (5) sets of students combined from 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021, 2021/2022 academic sessions in all the programmes run by the College Full Time, Part Time and Sandwich programmes will be presented at the 38th
convocation and graduation ceremonies.

He gave the names of the five outstanding female students, “In the 2017/ 2018/session, Atukale Amope Hikmat (WoodWork Technology Education ) topped her set as the overall Best NCE Student with a CGPA of 4.76 and a deserved Provost prize. In 2018/2019, Morondiya Rebecca Oluwatosin (Business Education) emerged with a CGPA of 4.69 and will be rewarded with the Provost prize as the Best NCE student.
“In the 2019/2020 session, Ajibade luwadolapo Faith (Primary Education Studies) with a CGPA of 4.71 topped her class and earned the Provost Prize. While Okoroafor Lauren Chika (Integrated Science/Biology) with a CGPA of 4.77 topped her class.
“Last but not least in the 2021/2022 academic session, Miss Onifude Azeezat Bisolu (Business Education) with a CGPA of 4.76 wins the Provost prize as the Best Graduating student.
“Hence, this has spurred some organizations and well-meaning individuals in the College such as Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), Dr. O. O. Mekiliuwa, Provost, Corona College of Education, Alumni and others to encourage them through cash gifts,” he added.
Speaking on the outstanding performances by some students for the five sessions, the Provost said such extraordinary feat would not go unrecognised as prizes and awards will be presented to those that excelled in their courses of study.
“In all, prizes and awards have been instituted by private individuals, Departments, Schools, Institutions and Organizations.
He added, “It is remarkable that all the best-graduating students are females! Hence, this has spurred some organizations and well-meaning individuals in the College such as Women in Colleges of Education (WICE), Dr. O. O. Mekiliuwa, Provost, Corona
College of Education, Alumni and others to encourage them through cash gifts,” he added.
On the developmental strides archived by the College, the Provost said has expanded and reviewed some of her academic programmes.
He disclosed that the College since the last convocation has mounted programmes like Primary Education Studies (PES) as a new NCE Course
while the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) programmes are in line with the previous Technical Teachers Certificate (TTC), saying they were designed to prepare prospective professional teachers at the postgraduate level.
The convocation lecture with the theme: “Vocational-Technical and Skill Acquisition and Youth
in the World of Work and Employment Market: What Does Nigeria Have to Offer?, was delivered by His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN,
Honorable Minister of Works and Housing Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Chairman of the occasion held at the New Multipurpose Hall was chaired by Prof. Rahamon Adisa Bello, Former Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos (UNILAG).
