Mr. Dapo Abiodun, the executive Governor of Ogun State has promised to extend fibre optics and free Wi-Fi for use by corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Sagamu Orientation Camp.
Governor Abiodun stated this in his message at the official opening/swearing-in ceremony Of the 2023 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 Orientation Course for corps members deployed to the state for the national service.
The Governor, represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare said the gesture will facilitate easy communication among corps members and staff of the scheme during orientation and other camp activities.
Governor Abiodun appealed to corporate organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and well-meaning individuals to join hands with his administration in providing an enabling atmosphere to help youths thrive.
He enjoined the over 2000 corps members to take advantage of the various socio-intervention programmes directed at employment generations such as agriculture, the tech hub and MSMES Clusters in the last three years and eleven months of the administration.
He said,” Some of the initiatives include Ogun Job Portal, Ogun Tech Hub and just last week the launch of Ogun Digital Economy Infrastructure Project.”
He appreciated all the stakeholders and partners of the NYSC scheme who have come from all walks of life to be part of the 2023 Batch A Stream 1 Orientation Swearing-In and Opening Ceremony and caution against the rejection of corps members.
The Governor seized the opportunity to appreciate the NYSC scheme for availing the corps members to actively participate in the just concluded election, saying the success recorded nationwide has further given credence to corps members’ forthrightness and trustworthiness in the delivery of national assignments.
In her introductory address, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka welcomed the corps members to the camp after completion of their various academic programs and induction into the NYSC Scheme.
“My dear compatriots, the Orientation Course is the first Cardinal programme of NYSC, which is aimed at introducing you to the objectives and programmes of the Scheme. It is designed to prepare you for the tasks of the Service Year through training on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development,
leadership coaching, paramilitary drills, and other physical activities as well as sensitization of other topical national issues, among others. It is also an avenue for
you to realize your potential and attain individual feats both during and after the service year.”
She enjoined them to take advantage of the golden opportunity to participate in all camp activities, continue to be of good behaviour and work hard to stand out to qualify for selection for the honours award at the end of their service year.
She added,” The Orientation Camp gate opened on Wednesday 26th, April, 2023 and by the midnight of Thursday 27th April, 2023, being the cut-off date and time for
registration, a total of I,479 Prospective Corps Members registered, comprising
of 57I Males and 908 Females.
“Nevertheless, some of them with serious health challenges, pregnant and nursing mothers among them have been allowed to stay out of Camp and will join these during the second phase of the Service year which will commence immediately after the Orientation Course.
She assured that these categories of corps members will “Receive their full remuneration as and when due.
