The Benue State University (BSU), Makurdi has issued a fraud alert to prospective applicants to beware of a scam on an online platform advertising the sale of forms for admission by the institution for the 2023/2024 academic year.
In a statement signed by Aondover Zwawua, Deputy Registrar/Academic Officer on behalf of the Registrar and Secretary to Senate also noted that the university was yet to set Cut-Off Points for the period under review.
In the statement titled: “BSU Fraud Alert and Disclaimer: No Public Statement on 2023/2024 Admission” made available to Education Roadmap on Monday, Zwawua advised applicants to always visit its website or call the institution’s official lines for information on its activities.
While the institution stressed that it was yet to commence action on the processes that would lead to the admission of students for the 2023/2024 academic session, it declared that the publication was the handwork of the fraudster.
The statement read in part, “The attention of the Benue State University has been drawn to a fake online/social media publication platform (Opera News) alleging that the University has set up her Cut-Off Point for 2023/2024 and at the same time, potential applicants are being requested to buy a form for the admission exercise. The fake news has been, unfortunately, widely shared on many platforms.
“The University hereby informs potential candidates and the general public that it has not commenced any process for the 2023/2024 admission exercise and that the said publication is the handiwork of a fraudster.
“The general public is, therefore, advised to disregard the news in its entirety. The University shall use its official channels of communication to inform prospective applicants and the general public when the process shall commence at the appropriate time.
“The University encourages the public to always visit www.bsum.edu.ng or call the official line provided on the University portal to seek clarification or authenticate any information on admission exercise”, it advised.
