The Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Kehinde Oluwadare on Monday extolled the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for her contributions to national development and fostering unity among the citizens for the past five decades.
As part of activities to herald the one-week in Ogun, the State Coordinator,
Mrs. Shokpeka Winified Ngozi, management, staff and hundreds of corps members embarked on the Unity Walk which took off from the State Secretariat at Okelewo all through the route mapped out by the Traffic Unit of the Nigerian Police and terminated at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta.
Dr. Oluwadare who received the State Coordinator in his office charged the corps members never to relent in their contributions to national development, saying Nigeria belongs to us all and advocating that all hands must be on the deck.
The NYSC @ 50 Unity walk is part of the activities lined up for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the NYSC which is scheduled to hold between 15th & 21st May, 2023.
The Commissioner said, “On behalf of the Governor Ogun State, I welcome you to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“As you can see that the Governor is doing everything possible to create an enabling environment and I hope that after your service year, you will be able to stay back In Ogun state.
“50 years indeed is not a joke, I can only encourage you that you continue to do everything possible to contribute your quota to the nation’s development. I also serve in 2016, and today I am a Commissioner.
“So, in a matter of years to this time, it’s possible also for you to be where you are supposed to be.
“Well, as you know that this is our nation, no other country but this nation belongs to us. Do anything possible to develop our nation.”
Dr. Oluwadare encouraged the young Nigerians to play their part and do the needful as part of their quota for the development of Nigeria.
He added,” We need leaders that can represent our country and that is why if you flashback from 1960 when we have great leaders in this country, the likes of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, and some other leaders from the north did everything possible from the introduction of free education in 1955 that most of the leaders benefitted from. So, I see you as
leaders of tomorrow that will develop this country.
He challenged the corps members to get involved in politics to stabilise the country, saying that there can never be economic stability without political stability.
“In other words, if politics is not stable, our economy can never be stable. So, I want to urge you that there is a need to be involved.
“Once again, on behalf of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, I congratulate all of you and I wish you well in your endeavours, ” the Commissioner added.
