Corps Members of the 2023 Batch “A” Stream two service year deployed to Ogun State have been urged to strive to protect the positive image of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme at all times during the service year and beyond.
This, by extension, will lead to the protection of national interests and the promotion of the common bonds that will foster national cohesion.
This assertion was made by the Head, Publicity and Protocol, Mr. Igba Emmanuel while delivering the Public Relations lecture at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Sagamu recently.
The Head of Publicity and Protocol took the corps members through the fundamental ethics of Public Relations and the role of Corps Members in sustaining the good image of the NYSC.
Mr Igba urged them to adhere strictly to the demands and ethics of Public Relations practice in their day-to-day activities, saying it breeds healthy relationships as good citizens, individuals and society.
He also stressed the need for Corps members to guide against unapproved interviews and the spread of unsubstantiated information and claims without recourse to the constituted authorities as use of the official channels of communication.
He lamented the collateral damage false information, unsubstantiated claims and fake news have wrecked on the nation, saying strict adherence to PR ethics would save them as individuals from avoidable issues.
Speaking further, Igba emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the official dress code approved for serving Corps Members, saying proper and good dress sense are also good traits of professional image makers which corps members represent during national service and beyond.
This, according to him, would project the image of the Scheme in good light and help to retain its pride of place as a leading light for youth organizations in Africa.
