On Friday, 26th May 2023, the Confucius Institute, University of Lagos (UNILAG) drew the curtain on its week-long Culture Week.
With the theme, “Learn a New Language, Double your World”, the programme had lots of solo performances, poetic recitations, and drama to offer. etc.
Speaking at the Closing Ceremony, the Nigerian Director of the institute, Professor Chimdi Maduagwu appreciated all the participants and everyone present for making the Chinese Culture Week a success.
He expressed his love for the Chinese Language and Culture and commended the appreciation that a growing number of Nigerians are showing for the socio-cultural heritage of the Chinese people. He described China as the most populated country in the world and Nigeria as the most populated nation in Africa, thus pointing out promising similarities between both countries.
In his remarks, the Institute’s Chinese Director, Professor Zhao Hongling, appreciated the audience and participants for gracing the event. He disclosed that the Confucius Institute has been enjoying a mutually-benefiting relationship with the University of Lagos since its establishment 14 years ago (2009-2023); and that the bond is getting stronger.
According to him, many Nigerian students of the Institute can now speak the Chinese language fluently is further proof of that flourishing partnership.
