Wahab Alawiye-King, chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), has won the award for excellence in educational reforms.
Lagos Monitoring Team (LMT), an online media platform, initiated the award.
While presenting the award on Sunday, Tunde Opeseitan, editor of LMT, said Alawiye-King was announced the winner based on his exceptional performance as the Lagos SUBEB chairman.
Opeseitan said the SUBEB chairman also introduced reforms that shaped primary education in Lagos.
“Since you emerged as chairman of LASUBEB, we have observed your passion and tireless commitment towards ensuring that pupils in our schools receive the best education possible,” he said.
“It is safe to conclude that you have a knack for excellent service delivery and you have embarked on novel initiatives that have redefined primary education not only in Lagos but across the country.
“The EKO excellence in child education and learning programme, popularly known as Eko excel, which is under your supervision, has continued to earn Lagos State global and local accolades for fostering a 21st-century education that is child-centered and enabled by modern practices and technology.”
The LMT editor said Alawiye-King implemented people-oriented initiatives that have contributed to providing access to quality education.
He also improved the welfare of teachers and other stakeholders in the primary education sector.
Also speaking, Adewale Ojeleye, chairman of the awards committee, said Alawiye-King was unanimously voted by LMT board members.
“This award to you (Alawiye-King) is to encourage you to continue your remarkable job of working for the growth and development of the state, whilst also serving as a motivating factor for others to give their best,” Ojeleye said.
On his part, Alawiye-King commended LMT for the award, noting that it would motivate him to continue to work in the best interest of primary school pupils in Lagos.
“For us, education is a powerful tool that can be used to change the world. We believe access, equity, and most importantly quality are some of the things you need to improve primary education in Nigeria and that is what we have been doing,” he said.
“We want to deeply thank the Lagos monitoring team for this award and we are dedicating it to all our teachers and pupils in Lagos state.”
