No fewer than 545 (Five Hundred and Forty-five) new students matriculated on Wednesday to commence academic learning for the 2022/2023 session at Anchor University, Lagos (AUL).
A gender breakdown of the student intake showed that the 7th matriculation event had more female students numbering 286 against the 259 male counterparts.
In all the University admitted a total of 502 students into the 100 level while the remaining 43 were admitted as Direct Entry students into the 200 Level.
In his address at the ceremonies witnessed by scores of parents and well-wishers, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ayo Bandele, advised the students to work hard to meet the high standards of the institution.
Speaking further, Prof. Bandele in the address themed: “The Push of a Growing Private University to Holistic Excellence”, charged the fresh men and women to be focused, committed and dedicated to their studies and other lawful engagements as students of the institution.
He said the 7th matriculation marked a remarkable push in the history of the university that has continued to wax stronger, saying it signified a notable elevation of AUL into the limelight that has propelled the institution into the realm of holistic excellence among Nigerian universities, particularly private universities.
He said the theme of this year’s address at the auspicious and glorious matriculation “Connotes a force or propeller acting on something and thereby creating an accelerated upward movement against any gravitational influence and impediments.
” I, therefore, congratulate our
matriculants of today for this privilege, which you must not take for granted. You
need to appreciate your parents and guidance for thinking of you for entrance
into this citadel of unique and encompassing futuristic education. There is no gainsaying the fact that AUL is a growing young university that has doubled its enrolment over the year. There must be a force or propeller or a push behind it, ” he said.
He stated that the university has competent personnel, good facilities and an environment to train and equip students with the right knowledge, skills and good character.
He, however, cautioned students to shun unruly activities and behaviours such as fighting, cultism, hooliganism, examination malpractice and indecent dressing among others, emphasising that the university has zero tolerance for these vices.
The VC reminded the new students that the university being a faith-based institution would follow the principle of holiness and righteousness preached by its proprietor, Deeper Life Bible Church.
“And that is why you are expected to pursue excellence all around by attending every fellowship and spiritual gathering expected of you, being punctual in class, at meetings and also respecting constituted authorities and the elders,” he added.
He sought the cooperation of parents and guardians, saying that as part of measures to instill discipline and excellence, the institution will from the next academic session commence pregnancy tests and the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations for all applicants before admission.
Prof. Bandele decried the growing menace of indiscipline and immorality among children, saying the measures are to ensure that brilliant and morally upright students, not nursing mothers, are enrolled for learning.
