The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tansian University, Umunya Oyi, Anambra State, His Eminence, Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpalaeke says only Tansian University provides quality education among private universities in Nigeria.
Okpalaeke who stated this at the inauguration of the 6th Governing Council of the university at St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral Ekwulobia in the Aguata council area explained that Tansian University is first amongst equals judging from the calibre of the teaching and non-teaching staff coupled with quality academic programmes that are in very high demand in society.
He said that at Tansian University, discipline is the core principle and it reflects in the training of students to place them in a vantage position over their peers from other institutions.
Okpalaeke who charged the 6th Governing Council to take Tansian University to enviable heights against all odds, said the composition of the Governing Council portrays better times for the university.
Former Anambra State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, who was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof.Theresa Nkechi Obiekezie, said the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of Tansian University expect that henceforth the 6th Governing Council will provide viable solutions to challenges facing the institution.
Obiekezie said the core mandate of the new Governing Council is to move the university from the level it is and make it the cynosure of other universities in the country.
She said the mission of the new Governing Council is achievable because she will bring her experience as former Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Anambra to bear on the new assignment, adding that the council will attract the National Universities Commission (NUC) to accredit more courses for the university, increase the student population as well as let the general public know that Tansian University is not expensive but very affordable.
Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Eugene Okoye Nwadialor said he was satisfied that members of the new Governing Council come from all walks of life and that looking at their pedigrees, he was satisfied that with concerted efforts they will move Tansian University forward.
Nwadialor noted that with cooperation from members of staff, Tansian University has done very well. He said all the programmes of the university have NUC accreditation and that the university recently had permission from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run 27 Post Graduate Programmes. The VC also disclosed that the Law and Nursing programmes of Tansian University are in very high demand in the country.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Academic) Paul University Awka and member of the 6th Governing Council of Tansian University Umunya, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, said with the composition of the new Governing Council, she was confident that the council will discharge its duty with utmost responsibility.
Okunna who described the council as a very high-powered council with men and women who have performed creditably well wherever they held positions of authority, said she was indeed confident that Tansian University will experience positive changes under the new Governing Council.
Also, Rev. Innocent Uke, one of the Directors and a member of the Board of Trustees of Tansian University, said with the calibre of men and women in the new Governing Council, there is no doubt that they will succeed in taking Tansian University to the next level of prominence.
Rev. Uke said that the 6th Governing Council consist of men and women of integrity as well as people with proven track records of performance in their respective endeavours.
He said they were so happy that the dream of having a functional Governing Council is fulfilled while expressing profound gratitude to the Chairman His Eminence Peter Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke for approving all the persons selected.
He said the major charge given to the new Governing Council was to take Tansian University to the level expected of a quality faith-based university. That they should ensure that the children of this generation are given quality education at Tansian University Umunya.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, who is also a member of the new Governing Council of Tansian University, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, thanked His Eminence Peter Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke for finding them worthy of the appointment.
Idemobi who said that Tansian University is already in its second stage of development, maintained that the new council will take it to the third level, emphasizing that the new council will look at the challenges on the ground, how to surmount them and make a better environment for the education of the young ones.
Also, the Liaison Officer Tansian University Umunya, Prof. Mary Ezeajughu Chukwuagozie expressed confidence in the ability of the new Governing Council to pilot the affairs of the university especially as it concerns the growth, standard and welfare of students.
Ezeajughu who is a professor of Political Science, noted that Tansian University has been the most outstanding private university in Anambra State and that the institution has about 19 courses duly accredited by the National Universities Commission. That with the Chairman His Eminence Peter Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke, the Chancellor of the university Sen.Dr. Victor Umeh and others at the helm of affairs, Tansian University is headed for greatness.
On his part, Associate Professor Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeoduagu, who is the Head of the Department of Microbiology and a member of the 6th Governing Council of Tansian University Umunya, said the university is billed to excel to enviable heights.
Umeoduagu said that the composition of the 6th Governing Council meant that Tansian University has taken over the nation and that in no distant time, people will start pulling their children out from other universities in the country and enrol them in Tansian University where quality education is guaranteed.
