The agenda for educational advancement in Ogun State has again received a boost as the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), in partnership with a non-profit organisation, Teach for Nigeria (TFN) trained over 300 teachers across its four Zonal divisions of the State.
Chairman, TESCOM, Evang. Olalekan Ifede, who spoke at the two-day in-person Teachers Training Programme at Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta, the venue for the Egba division, which ran concurrently in Ijebu, Yewa and Remo divisions for over 100 teachers in secondary schools, said the training had brought a practical approach to teaching.
Engr. Ifede said the State government would continue to work hand in hand with relevant stakeholders, to further improve the standard of education, commending the strides of TFN for its passion for educational excellence, through the training of teachers.
He enjoined the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity, saying more of such would improve the knowledge of secondary school teachers in the State.
On his part, an alumnus and facilitator of TFN, Mr. Mubarak Oyedele said the organisation had enjoyed a fruitful partnership with the present administration, adding that the training over time had yielded good results among fellows.
“There is no doubt the fact that the partnership we enjoy with Ogun State is working and the records can attest to this. The ongoing Teachers Training Programme has been designed to expose participants to leadership skills, classroom culture, and digital trends in teaching among others”, Oyedele said.
In their separate remarks, Mr. Oluwafemi Bakare of Ibogun Olaogun Community Grammar School, Ifo and Mrs. Banjo Adeola from Oke-pata Community High School, Ifo, said the training was an eye-opener and had added value to them as teachers, urging the organisers not to rest on their oars.
