The Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Chris Jimba has urged members of the just-ended 2023 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course to be diligent at their Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
The appeal was made by Mr. Jimba during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One Orientation Course at the NYSC Orientation Camp auditorium within the Sagamu International Stadium, Ogun State.
The Coordinator urged the corps members who were deployed to ministries, parastatals, public and private schools and organisations to live by the rules and regulations guiding their employment and the NYSC Scheme.
“I enjoin you to perform your duties with diligence and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as well as workplace rules and
regulations. In keeping with the objectives of the Scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting their cultures.
“You must desist from meddling in their local politics. Furthermore, I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service Projects that will help to uplift the living standard of the host communities.
“Your participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted in Camp under the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme was impressive.”
Jimba encouraged the corps members to build on the skills acquired by availing themselves of opportunities for post-camp training, saying this will go a long way in empowering them for self-reliance.
He appealed to the Corps Members to accept their postings in good faith and desist from acts of inducing rejections and warned against night travels, saying that the NYSC has zero tolerance for such as they increase the risk of accidents and make rescue operations difficult.
The event was devoid of the traditional marchpast, salutes, parade and the three hearty cheers due to the early morning showers that forced the authority to shift the ceremonies under the roof rather than in the sun and the rain.
The ceremony also featured the special presentation of a framed photograph to the Coordinator by the Corps Camp Directors in appreciation of Mr. Jimba’s fatherly roles and mentorship during the orientation training.
