The Lagos State Secretariat of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Wednesday takes its annual Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) to dwellers of Somolu Local Government Council Area.
The Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) is an innovation of the NYSC designed to reach out to core rural areas to enhance the accessibility of health care services by rural dwellers.
Speaking at the programme, NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, said the conduct of the medical outreach in Somolu was in fulfillment of the objective of the scheme, and furtherance humanitarian works by corps medical personnel to give back to society.
In their goodwill messages, the Special Adviser on Education at the Somolu Local Government Area, Prince Sodiq Adeeso, acknowledged that the posting of corps members to the Council has helped immensely in the area of education, especially during this vacation when pupils are taught by corps members.
He appreciated the enormity of the contributions of corps members and advocated for the posting of more corps members to the Council.
In the same vein, Mr. Maku Abiodun, representing the Human Resource Officer of the Council, called on the management of the NYSC to ensure the HIRD programme is sustained.
The sponsors of the programme are Colgate and Pidgin LifeCare Foundation which helped to distribute food items and other provisions to attendees who are there to access medical care.
The 1-day programme which began Wednesday with a community-based sensitization, had 51 medical personnel, which comprise of 19 Doctors, 9 Pharmacists, 7 Nurses, 5 Physiotherapists, 2 Optometrists, 1 Dentist and 8 Medical Laboratory Scientists deployed for the exercise which attended to 428 indigents of Somolu.
