As the 2023 Batch B’ Stream II orientation course programme ends nationwide today, the Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, Mr. Chris Jimba has warned corps members not to meddle in the local politics of their host communities.
This charge formed part of his address during the closing ceremonies for the 2023 Batch B Stream II orientation course for corps members deployed to the state which was held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp within the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
Mr. Jimba urged the corps members to accept their postings to communities, organisations, government establishments, parastatals and schools across the state and urged them to make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
“In this regard, I would like to remind you of the oath of allegiance you took in which you pledged to accept posting in good faith. I enjoin you to perform your duties with diligence and be guided by
the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws as well as workplace rules and regulations.

“In keeping with the objectives of the Scheme, I enjoin you to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that will help to uplift the living standard of the host communities.”
He appealed to employers to
always accept Corps Members posted to them, make necessary provisions for their welfare and mentor them like their biological children properly to enable them to develop their potential.
He lauded their active but impressive participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted at Camp
under the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) and encouraged them to “Build on the skills acquired by availing yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self-reliance.”
The Coordinator assured them that the scheme would continue to liaise with financial institutions and other stakeholders to provide start-up loans to enable them to actualize their business dreams to optimize the impact of the programme.
On a cautious note, Mr. Jimba advised the corps members to be security conscious as they proceed to their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA), saying safety and security should be the concerns and responsibility of everyone.
“You should avoid acts that can endanger your life such as staying out late, attending night parties, visiting dangerous places, and acceptance of car rides and gifts from strangers.
“On our part, we are committed to making adequate provisions for your security and general welfare in line with the policy thrust of the NYSC Director General. Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders to ensure adherence as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year.”
He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for his consistency and unwavering support for the scheme in the state.
He added, “Our appreciation also
goes to Local Government Councils, Security Agencies, traditional rulers,
Corps Employers and other stakeholders whose supports have been contributing to the success of our operations.”
The Orientation Course in Sagamu commenced on Wednesday 16″ August with 502 males, 998 females Ogun State Corps Members and a total of 374 dislodged Lagos State Corps Members comprising 3 males and 371 females.
