Teachers in secondary schools across the State have been admonished to ensure discipline and due diligence in the discharge of their duties.
Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Evang. Olalekan Ifede gave the admonition during a statutory monitoring exercise to secondary schools, following resumption for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The TESCOM boss, who had other management staff of the Commission on the entourage, said teachers were role models who students look up to, adding that whatever they do should reflect good behaviours and characters.
According to him, ” moral and academic standards of students must be improved upon, hence teachers should be up and doing and ensure they perform their duties diligently.
“The Commission wants a better Higher Education Potential (HEP) to be recorded, and for that to be realised, productivity on the part of teachers must be improved upon”.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Dr. Abdul Waheed Olanloye encouraged teachers to establish mutual relationships among themselves and cooperate with the management staff in their respective schools, in order to make a positive impact towards the educational advancement of the State.
In his response, the Principal, Ebenezer Grammar School, Senior, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Mr. Stephen Adebo, said students and teachers had resumed fully, saying admission was ongoing for Senior Secondary one (SS1) students, while academic work had also commenced in all classes.
Also speaking, the Principal, Saje High School, Junior, in Abeokuta, Mrs Muslimat Dawood-Kelani affirmed that teachers were on ground for academic work, lauding the efforts of TESCOM for the visit.
Schools visited include St.John’s Anglican High School Kuto, Ebenezer Grammar School and Saje High School, all in Abeokuta.
