The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee, Lagos axis, has declared its support for the Lagos State Parks and Garages Administrators (LASPAGA).
The association affirmed that the agency has employed over 200 student leaders across the state-owned tertiary institutions and are well remunerated.
In a letter jointly signed by NANS JCC Chairman, Comr. Alimi Lekan Idris and General Secretary Comr. Abefe Abdul-Rasaq to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the Ministry of Transportation, after a protest in Alausa Government House on Tuesday, the student body lauded the Governor for creating LASPAGA to maintain peace and order in the state following fracas that ensued in Iyana Iba which led to the suspension of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
The student body added that the suspension of RTEAN was orchestrated by its members in the state.
“The chaos experienced under the leadership of Alhaji Musa Mohammed, former RTEAN Chairman, did not only cause untold trauma and shooting of guns around the school, it also endangered lives of students living within and outside the campus of Lagos State University (LASU).
“The creation of LASPAGA by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has significantly touched the lives of students in the state. It has alleviated poverty and reduced unemployment among graduates,” the letter stated.
NANS noted that the issue around the creation of LASPAGA was already in court in a suit filed by RTEAN.
It, however, urged the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to back off.
The student body lauded LASPAGA for establishing the first-ever institutional park for students in the state.
“We believe that empowering LASPAGA will underscore your (Gov Sanwo-Olu) dedication to the wellbeing of Lagosians and your commitment to effective urban management which by extension sends a strong message that safety, order and the rule of law are paramount in Lagos State.
“LASPAGA’s commitment to maintaining order, cleanliness and efficiency within public parks and garages is commendable. The students are genuinely pleased with its performance and positive impact on our lives,” it added.
