As Nigeria joins the global community in marking the 2023 World Teachers Day (WTD), the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) has commended the roles played by teachers in nurturing children into useful
adults.
NAPPS in a message signed by its National President, Chief Yomi Otubela, advocated the need for a safe learning environment, saying an ill-secured atmosphere could hurt the learning process.
Odubela congratulated all teachers across the world, especially in Nigeria for their commitment to grooming great leaders for the country.
The 2023 WTD has as its theme: “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage”.
The note read: “I warmly congratulate all teachers, particularly the Nigerian teachers on the occasion of the 2023 World Teachers’ Day celebration.
“It is a great delight to be associated with these sets of professionals who are committed to preparing and grooming our children to become great leaders in various spheres of life.
“It is common knowledge that the importance of teachers in society cannot be overemphasised as they do not only contribute significantly to the academic world but also the development of society at large.
According to the NAPPS National President, World Teachers’ Day provides a unique opportunity to appreciate teachers for their immense contribution to the growth and development of the education sector.
“Given the fact that the future of any society lies in the hands of its children, teachers who are the transformation agents in education, should get the necessary support from all stakeholders and feel motivated to achieve the goals of effective and qualitative education.
“Furthermore, teachers as role models to our children need every support in various areas (psychological support, mental wellness, job security, remuneration, technological support, etc. to successfully carry out their numerous roles in the lives of our children.
“Similarly, I enjoin the governments at all levels and school owners/ administrators to ensure that our learning institutions are adequately secured from threats that could hurt the learning process.”
Otubela who wished all teachers a happy celebration added, “As we celebrate the virtues and heroic qualities of our teachers, I would like to thank all teachers for their support, diligence, and dedication to the teaching profession.”
