The Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has revealed the intention of the State Government to build Resource Centres in the headquarters of the four Regional Schools of the State.
Prof. Arigbabu disclosed this in Abeokuta, during the visit of AIONIAN Schools to his office said the centres would be built in Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokuta to serve Egba region, Yewa College, Ilaro, to serve Yewa axis, Remo Secondary School, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode to serve Remo and Ijebu regions respectively.
The Commissioner revealed further that the Resource Centres which would be technologically driven for Hi-Tech, would come along with the installation of solar panels for electricity supplies, computers set with internet facilities, smart classrooms, and other digital equipment.
He said “Very soon, the government was planning to rehabilitate laboratories in all secondary schools across the State and equip them with world-class equipment. Though whatever interventions we are bringing to schools will start with the 42 Flagship Schools, till we cover all the 511 schools.
Prof. Arigbabu pledged the usual support of the present administration for AIONIAN Schools in the State, especially as they look forward to hosting the next game in 2024 by Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, encouraging them to engage in early and adequate preparation for the State to host and win among the four participating States.
Speaking, the Principal of Abeokuta Grammar School who doubles as the Chief AIONIAN, Mr. Oludare Shorinola, stated that the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, was the first Governor in history to host the games twice, saying the investment of the government is paying off in schools, both in academics and in sporting activities.
Mr. Shorinola highlighted the winners to include Elijah Agape, Olude Kehinde, Olaitan Ayomide, Elizabeth Lasisi and Hafsat Majekodunmi who won golds, silvers, and bronze Medals respectively in various track events, in AIONIAN Schools, and represented the State at the just concluded National Sports Festival in Asaba.
