An alumnus of the Department of Architecture, University of Lagos, Mr. Ifeloju Olusanya, has won the Martin Weaver Scholarship Award.
Currently a PhD student at the University of Kansas, Mr. Olusanya received the award at the Association for Preservation Technology (APT) International Conference, 2023, in the United States of America.
The award is in recognition of his research contribution to the discipline of historic preservation. The research broadens the scope of the definition of heritage in order to foster inclusivity in architecture and historic preservation research and practice, by supporting and acknowledging the significance of the cultural heritage of marginalized groups.
At the conference, Mr. Olusanya presented his research on the cultural heritage track, titled: “Perspectives on the Potential of Heritage-led Development as an Agent of Sustainable Change in the Historic Core of Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria, Africa”.
The Martin Weaver Student Scholarship promotes the advancement of young professionals in the early stages of their careers in Historic Preservation/Conservation. The scholarship is intended to assist the growth of these young professionals in their fields of study, and supports current and innovative research as well as foreign travel.
