Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ogun State, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, has advised candidates registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (JAMB), to carefully find out requirements for admission, as well as the subject combination based on the choice of institution.

Prof. Arigbabu revealed this in Abeokuta during the courtesy visit of the Public Relations Officer of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Ogun State, saying the inability to put necessary things in place could deny them admission into the universities.

The Commissioner emphasised the need to sensitise candidates to carefully provide adequate information, while putting up their data for UTME registration, adding that many candidates with good cut-off marks were denied admission because of wrong information provided.

Arigbabu promised that the Ministry would help the body in the sensitisation process, commending the leadership and officers of JAMB for encouraging merit-based admission, as well as introducing innovations every year, which has reposed more confidence in the body.

The Commissioner noted that the Learner Identification Number (LIN) introduced by the State government was to ensure accurate and consistent learner data gathering, aimed at eradicating examination malpractices and making it impossible for impersonators to write examinations on behalf of any candidate.

Speaking on the purpose of the visit, the Head of Servicom, who also doubles as Public Relations Officer for JAMB, Miss Abiola Adekunle, explained that errors in UTME registration could only be modified and not changed, saying most of the errors emanated from wrong information supplied during the enrolment for National Identification Number (NIN).

Miss Adekunle noted that some parents while waiting for their children’s NIN print out, use their own NIN to register for them, revealing that such learners would not be allowed to sit for the examination, because it was the pictures of the parents that would appear and it would be categorised as wrong registration.
