As the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) declared the 2023 Batch C, Stream I Orientation Course closed nationwide, corps members have been charged to effectively deploy social media for personal development and promotion of national unity.
Mrs Diana Nasamu, the Ogun State Coordinator of the NYSC gave the charge in her address at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch C (Stream l) Orientation course at the Permanent Orientation camp, Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
She said, “I urge you to avoid using social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred. Instead, your activities online should be targeted at self-improvement as well as the promotion of the unity, peace and development of our dear country.
“In the same vein, avoid being speculative on issues affecting the NYSC and, instead, visit our website, social media platforms and other official channels for clarifications.”
As the corps members later took turns collecting their letters of posting to Places of Primary Assignment (PPA), Nasamu enjoined corps employers to always accept them and make necessary preparations for their welfare.
She added, “I urge employers to mentor these young Nigerians properly to enable them to develop their potential. I also call on other stakeholders, including State and Local Government authorities as well as traditional rulers, to give the necessary encouragement to the corps members.”
Nasamu charged them to embrace the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme aimed at empowering and equipping them for wealth creation during and after their service year, adding “Avail yourselves of opportunities for post-camp training as this will go a long way in empowering you for self-reliance.”
The State Coordinator while declaring the orientation course closed, presented letters of commendations to Agboola Adedeji Emmanuel, the Overall Parade Commander and the three Corps Camp Directors; Ralph Ehigile Ede, Ugban Ugochukwu and Markus Geoffery for their outstanding performance during the orientation course programme.
