The Imo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Rachel Idaewor has underscored the significance of embracing the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme aimed at empowering and equipping the Corps members for wealth creation during and after their Service year.
To achieve the mandate, the Coordinator enjoined the Corps members to continue with the Post Camp SAED training as they commence their Primary Assignment.
In her address at the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch C (Stream l) Orientation course at Eziama Obaire Camp, Idaewor said
“The SAED trainings definitely will make you relevant in the Society.”
She averred that the Corps members having been thoroughly guided by the ideals of the Scheme should diligently handle their duties in their various Places of Primary Assignment.
She urged the corps members to integrate into their host communities, learn their languages/cultures and look out for the felt needs of such communities, initiate personal or group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that will improve the living standards of the people.
Recalling the seamless and resounding success of the orientation course which was attributed to the active participation and demonstration of the high level of discipline exhibited by the Corps Members, the Coordinator said this attests to their readiness for patriotic service to the Fatherland.
She further encouraged them to sustain the tempo of discipline, commitment and diligence throughout the service year.
On the welfare and safety of the Corps Members, Mrs Idaewor informed them that it was topmost on the agenda of the NYSC Director General and reassured them of their safety in the State.
She encouraged them to be security conscious and avoid risky engagements such as staying out late at night, visiting dangerous places, accepting car rides from strangers and avoiding unauthorized night trips.
The State Coordinator while declaring the Orientation course closed, she expressed her profound appreciation to the State Government and the major stakeholders for creating an enabling environment for the Corps Members to serve in the State.
