Makers of popular laundry detergent, Viva, and other products, Aspira Nigeria Limited, has committed itself to the donation of a fully furnished laundromat to the Lagos State University.
The Deed of Gift signing ceremony for the donation took place on Wednesday, 29th November 2023, between representatives of the University led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, and Aspira Nigeria Limited led by Mr. Kazeem Animashaun.
According to the terms of the Deed, Aspira Nigeria Limited, a member of the Lee Group of Companies from the South of the Sahel, is expected to donate a fully furnished two-wing laundromat fitted with washing machines within the campus of the University for use by staff and students.
The facility, which would be operated by the university, is also expected to have a mart where products of the company would be sold at company prices to interested members of the community.
In her speech, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olatunji-Bello said donation of the laundromat coincided with the commencement of operations of the much-awaited ultra-modern hostel facilities.
She added “The donation is one of the keys to achieving our mutual goals of advancing knowledge and providing an enabling environment for students in our university.”
According to the VC, the facility will also provide more opportunities for skill acquisition for the students.
The meeting had in attendance members of the university management, including the DVC, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo; DVC, Academic, Prof. Olufunsho Omobitan; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU, representative of the Bursar, Mr Ogunde David; the University Librarian, Prof. Emmanuel Layi Adebayo; Director of LASU Ventures, Prof. Oluwatosin Adu; Deputy Registrar, Legal Unit, Mrs O. O. Boyejo; Deputy Registrar, VCO, Dr. Lateef Sekoni; DR/SA to the VC, Dr. Lateef Salami, Coordinator CIPR, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile and other officials of the university.
The donation was facilitated by the Acting Director, Directorate of Interventions, Dr. Taiwo Oseni Afisi with the support of a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English, Dr. Olawunmi Oni-Buraimoh, both of whom were also present at the meeting.
