I learnt To Play Badminton In 2 Months, Says Kwara’s 12 Year Old Double Bronze Medalist

Precious Olarewaju, 12, Kwara State’s Para Badminton double bronze medalist at the ongoing National Para Game, NPG, in Abuja says she took playing and training in Badminton barely two months ago and amazingly picked two medals on her first major competition.

A student of Government Girls Day Secondary, Oko Erin, Olararewaju suddenly sauntered into badminton training on the heels of Tennis trainer and asked to be taught how to play Badminton.

“It was a sudden decision for me. It wasn’t as if there was mentor somewhere.

“I just wanted to play Badminton and coach taught me,” she said.

Olarewaju won her first bronze in girls para badminton.

Then she paired Ayuba Yahaya who earlier won a gold medal for the boys para badminton in the mixed double category of the game.

They won a bronze.

Speaking about her, the coach, Mope Abubakar Kayode, said that Olarewaju came to his training one evening following a certain Mr Felix, a tennis trainer.

“Our champion Eniola Bolaji, is currently in Dubai for Paralympics qualifying tournament.

“We brought Olarewaju here to give her exposure and she has performed well.
