Vice President Shettima Commends Ugwumba Leadership Center For Empowering Over 5000 Nigerian Youths

Vice President, Kashim Shettima has applauded the Ugwumba Leadership Center for its commendable efforts in empowering over 5000 Nigerian youths through skills acquisition, providing the top ten finalists with essential starter packs.

Represented by Mrs. Inna Audu, Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs, Vice President Shettima emphasised that such empowerment initiatives would contribute to reducing unemployment and improving the country’s economic situation.

Speaking at the Ugwumba Leadership Center Top Ten Finalists event in Abuja, Vice President Shettima linked the initiative to one of Tinubu’s eight-point agenda items, specifically aimed at eradicating poverty and commended the center for aligning with this goal.

In his keynote address, Engr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, Director General of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, underscored the role of government policies in entrepreneurship.

He lamented Nigeria’s heavy reliance on imported goods and emphasized the need to place more value on locally made products.

Founder of Ugwumba Leadership Center, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, expressed joy and gratitude during the 6th edition of the Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge.

He highlighted the impact of the program, revealing that the center, since its establishment in 2018, has trained and supported over 5,000 youths in establishing businesses. The initiative not only resulted in self-employment for these young entrepreneurs but also contributed to job creation for others, subsequently impacting the nation’s GDP.

Nwosu emphasized the commitment of both financial and non-financial resources to support Nigerian youths, underlining the core belief in national unity.

President of the Princeton Leadership Forum, Dr. Chibuike Echem, urged Nigerians to emulate the foundation in tackling unemployment, expressing concern over the self-centered nature in light of the harsh economic situation.

Executive Director, Remy Chukwunere, in his welcome address, highlighted the founding mission of the Ugwumba Center for Leadership Development in Africa in 2018, aiming to raise a new generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

The Ugwumba Enterprise Challenge, launched to promote innovation and self-employment, has successfully supported the birth of over 5,000 SMEs and tech startups across Nigeria, building a community of over 20,000 young and women entrepreneurs in Africa.

The winner of the 2023 Ugwumba Challenge is Taiwo Akinsanya of iGee Closet out of 1400 participations.
