Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, 59th
President of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of
Nigeria (ICAN), has advised
the 802 newly fellows of the
Institute to uphold ethical
code and maintain professional conduct that is beyond
reproach.
He gave the advice while
speaking at the 22nd confer
ment ceremony held at the
Landmark Centre, Victoria
Island, stating that the char
acter and carriage that qual
ified them for the esteemed
position should be guarded jealously.
He said that the confer
ment ceremony was not only
to commemorate the highest
professional status that can be attained by any chartered accountant but also to recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of the distinguished members while upholding the principles of Accuracy and Integrity which ICAN is known for.
He noted that this set of
awardees has put in a mini
mum of five years ication in practice or ten
years post-qualification
experience, if not in active
practice.
“These strict requirements
must be fulfilled to qualify for the prestigious Fellowship
status of the Institute. I must mention that these measures are put in place to guarantee that only the most deserving individuals are granted membership to this esteemed professional community.
“While we recognize the
enormity of the responsibilities of being a fellow of our great Institute, you are also expected to serve as mentors and role models to promising Chartered Accountants
just as you display excellent
professional services in your
various vocations, whether
paid employment or self-employment.
“I encourage you all to
connect frequently, network,
and share professional ideas
to remain ahead of the curve.
Unarguably, the present economic challenges require liberate collaborative efforts
among Chartered Accountants if we want to impact our society significantly.
Okwuosa thereby urged the new members of the Fellowship community and other individuals associated
with the Institute, to take full advantage of the exceptional opportunities for enhancing their skills and knowledge through theInstitute’s capacity-building programmes and ongoing professional development initiatives.
