The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) holds its 31st Convocation Ceremony on January 26 and 27, 2024.
Part of the activities lined up for the 31st Convocation Ceremony is the conferment of honorary degrees on the former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and the Co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola.
The Vice – Chancellor of the University, Prof Babatunde Kehinde disclosed this during In the maiden Webinar Series of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) held recently.
Speaking during the webinar, Prof Kehinde appreciated the committment of all stakeholders of the University to the success stories in recent times while charging Them to do more.
He called for collective efforts toward achieving the University’s goals, while underscoring the significance of unity and shared purpose for meaningful accomplishments.
Between June 2010 and June 2015, Professor Attahiru Muhammadu Jega presided over the preparation and conduct of the country’s successful and widely acclaimed 2011 and 2015 general elections.
Before heading INEC, he was vice-chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, a federal university (2005-2010); deputy vice-chancellor of Bayero University (1995-1996); director of the Center for Democratic Research and Training (2000-2004); president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU (1988-1994); and vice president of the ASUU (1986-1988).
Fola Adeola who clocked 70 on Wednesday and was described as ”a great asset to the nation” by the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria obtained his HND in Accountancy from Yaba College of Technology. He also received degrees from the London School of Accountancy, the International Institute for Management Development, the Lagos Business School and the Harvard Business School.
Before founding GTB Plc in 1990 (together with Tayo Aderinokun), Adeola was the Deputy General
