The Council for Legal Education (CLE) and the National Universities Commission (NUC) have approved Anchor University, Lagos to commence the intake of students for Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree and Postgraduate programmes.
According to the management, the University will produce globally competitive lawyers by having strong Ordinary Level examination requirements in subjects like Literature, English and other humanities core subjects as the bedrock while credit pass in mathematics will not be made compulsory at the onset based on what NUC had approved.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Samuel Oye-Bandele disclosed this during a press conference held at the campus of the institution in Ayobo, Lagos.
Speaking at the press briefing attended by principal officers, the Dean of Postgraduate School and Deans of other Faculties, the Vice-Chancellor described the feat as one of the numerous strides recorded by the university since its establishment in 2016 and commended the vision of the Chancellor Pastor Dr. William Kumuyi based on Character, Competence, Courage pedestal.
Prof Bandele said the press chat was strategically planned to echo the take-off of the University’s School of Postgraduate Studies and the inauguration of the first batch of students admitted for the 2023/2024.
The VC disclosed that for the Postgraduate programmes, Anchor University will commence with three programmes namely; Ph.D. MA and Post Graduate Diploma programmes in Business Administration, Computer Science and Microbiology.
He said, “There will be flexibility or accommodation/residency policies for postgraduate students, both male and female. Postgraduate students will voluntarily opt for whichever mode of admission is either part-time or full-time and for the corresponding residency policy attached.
“The innovative study plans for both our Law and Postgraduate programmes remain very unique. The university Senate made some strategic approvals at its last meeting that the AUL Law programme will take off with Public and Private Law departments which will lay a quality and solid foundation for our Law students.
“Anchor University already developed a very standard curriculum for our Law programmes based on the new NUC CCMAS benchmarks. Lagos being a cosmopolitan city, our Law programme will emphasise contents that will match the realities of her complexities for quality legal education.”
The VC lauded the approval of the two programmes by both NUC and Council for Legal Education and their commendation for the institution’s serene atmosphere for learning.
Furthermore, he reiterated that candidates will enjoy a rare opportunity of the university’s collaboration scheme to complete their courses in foreign Universities with NUC-recognised universities from Poland for Computer Science and Commonwealth of Dominica for Medical Science Courses like Anatomy, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Science, among others.
Bandele warned intending and existing students of the university to desist from all forms of antisocial behaviours, saying the institution has zero-tolerance conduct that could tarnish the soaring reputation of the university.
