In a joint effort, the Katsina State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have successfully facilitated the return of 1,395 out-of-school children to classrooms within the state.
Jamila Abdu-Mani, the Special Adviser to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda on Girl-child Education, announced this development during a distribution event of educational materials in Rimi Local Government Area.
The back-to-school kits provided to the students included uniforms, writing materials, bags, and shoes, aimed at ensuring the sustained attendance and completion of their education.
Abdu-Mani clarified that the enrollment initiative for these children was spearheaded by the state’s Department of Girl-child Education and Child Development in collaboration with UNICEF and various stakeholders.
Emphasizing the commitment to fostering quality education, particularly for girls, she stressed the importance of providing necessary support to help them realize their full potential.
Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal-Jobe expressed gratitude to UNICEF for partnering with the state government to enhance the standards of education, especially at the elementary level.
Recognizing education as a fundamental pillar for development, Lawal-Jobe assured UNICEF of the state’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the education sector.
He urged community leaders, parents, and non-governmental organizations to collaborate with the government in advancing girl-child education in the state.
