Education Minister Directs Speedy Completion Of Nuclear Energy Curriculum


The Education Minister, Prof Tahir Mamman has directed the National Universities Commission (NUC) to expedite action towards the completion of the Nuclear Energy Curriculum.

According to the Minister, this will enable some Nigerian Universities and the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission as well as Polytechnics to commence the training of Nuclear Scientists and Technologists locally.

A statement by Ben. Bem Goong, Director Press and Public Relations, NUC started that Professor Tahir Mamman spoke through the Minister of state for Education, Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu when he received in audience, the leadership of the Nigerian Nuclear Energy Commission who paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja recently.

The Minister also indicated that the Federal Government will prioritize the award of Scholarships to students wishing to study Nuclear Science and related courses within and outside the country.

Earlier, the Director-General of the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC), Prof. Yusuf Aminu Ahmed told the Minister that his Commission was currently partnering with Korea and China to meet its training needs for Nuclear Scientists, adding that there was need for the country to look inward in this regard.

Prof. Yusuf emphasized that human capital development is critical for the country in the pursuit of a Nuclear programme in meeting her energy and pharmaceutical needs.
