Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former chairman of Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun is billed to deliver a keynote address at the opening of the Annual Legal Year of the Faculty of Law, University of Abuja,
A statement by the President of LAWSAN, Lawal Farouq Ayobami, said the event is designed to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Chief Olanipekun to the legal profession, in particular, and the society at large.
He disclosed that the event is expected to attract foremost members of the Bar and the Bench.
Some highlights would also allow students to showcase their talents and skills in law, such as moot court, debate, quiz, and essay competitions.
According to him, the event would provide an opportunity for law students to interact with and also learn from the legal icon, who had handled several landmark cases successfully, in various courts of competent jurisdictions.
The event also features a symposium, and an award ceremony, where Chief Olanipekun and others would a certificate of recognition alongside the Vice Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Abdulrasheed Yusuf.
“The highlight of the event is a special honour to be conferred on Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, CFR, a distinguished legal luminary and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Chief Olanipekun, who has been described as a “role model and mentor” by many young lawyers, will deliver a keynote address on the theme of “21st Century Lawyers: Exploiting Law at a Binding Force in this Golden Age”.
The student leader expressed his appreciation to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Abdulrasheed Yusuf and other members of staff for their support and guidance.
He also thanked the sponsors and partners of the event, including the Nigerian Bar Association, the Council of Legal Education, the Pan African Lawyers Union, and Wole Olanipekun and Co, a leading law firm in Nigeria.
