LASUCOM Unveils Plans For 25th Anniversary

… As Provost Reaffirms Harmony With State

As the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) counts down to the official kick-off day of its week-long Silver-Jubilee Celebration themed: “Celebrating 25 years of excellence in medical education”, the College has unveiled various activities already put in place to commemorate the epic milestone.

The Provost of the College, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya went down memory lane as he noted the contributions of the College’s founding fathers to the exponential growth of LASUCOM over the years to meet the demand for well-trained medical and allied medical personnel.

He said all of these have necessitated the planned expansion of the current facilities; including lecture/seminar halls, laboratories, hostel accommodations as well as critical human resources in terms of quality and quantity.

“I am proud to say that the College has benefited from unalloyed support and commitment from the Lagos State Government over the years for which LASUCOM has in turn delivered unparalleled and enduring value,” he thankfully stated.

The Provost noted that beyond the College’s primary function of training young health professionals, it also prides itself on fostering cooperation with the local community and the state for the betterment of society.

He stated, “Since LASUCOM started 25 years ago, we have made sure that between the town and the gown, we shake hands. Most of the state health policies and programmes that are rolled out are influenced by their relative departments in the College”.

The Deputy Provost and Chairman 25th Anniversary Committee, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, while briefing the press on the programme of events the College had outlined for the anniversary, stated that a Jumat service will kick off the “Silver Jubilee” festivities on Friday, February 2nd at the LASUTH mosque.

“Novelty Football match between LASUCOM Alumni and LASUCOM students will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at the College Sport Complex, while a thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, February 4th, at the Chapel Of St. Luke The Physician within the premises.
