Africa’s Richest man, Aliko Dangote will be on Friday deliver Bayero University, Kano (BUK) pre-convocation lecture as part of activities marking the 38th convocation ceremony of the University.
Briefing newsmen in his office on Monday on the forthcoming staggered convocation, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Sagir Adamu said, “Dangote will be speaking on the Role of Private Sector in Building a Sustainable Knowledge Economy in Nigeria”.
Sagir Adamu Abbas explained that the choice of the Kano-born Africa’s richest man was harnessed to bridge the gap between the University, and the private sector.
The Vice-Chancellor said that two prominent Nigerians, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of, the African Development Bank, and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin would be awarded an Honorary Doctorate for their immense contributions to the institution.
Professor Adamu Abbas revealed that the 38th convocation would produce over 11.000 graduates with 180 first-class students.
He further disclosed that the staggered convocation would begin with “With 6 Faculties, namely, Agriculture, Art And Islamic Studies, Education, Law and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
He said among the graduates are 289 from Dangote Business School, 381 postgraduate students, 3,770 masters, and 317 PhD.
The Vice-Chancellor disclosed, “We have a plan to start Open and Distance Learning from the beginning in 2025 and the University is making serious inroads in other innovative Scientific research sectors.”
Professor Abbas hailed the media for their objective reporting of the institution, as he stressed that reportage of the institution has in a small way eased the running of the Varsity.
