The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has expressed concern about some disturbing issues at Yobe State University Damaturu.

Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Yobe chapter, Comrade Ahmed Ibrahim while addressing newsmen in Damaturu said that the Union is committed to the struggle for a better University system and the welfare of its members.

The Union according to him, ensures members conduct themselves professionally, ethically and morally, saying ASUU’s responsibilities include community services, humanitarian support, support for students and ensuring fairness is done to all.

“The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State Chapter held an emergency congress meeting on February 29th, 2024. Our union wishes to appreciate the efforts of His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, the Visitor to Yobe State University, for approving the 2019 minimum wage in January 2023. The emergency congress discussed the blatant lawlessness and punitive abuses of administrative procedures, which hurt the University’s image and productivity”.

“ASUU-YSU is, therefore, concerned over these developments and calls on the Yobe State Government and the University administration to salvage the institution from the irredeemable path dragged by the vested interests of few individuals in positions of authority with disregard for law and procedures conniving in the name of the Visitor, His Excellency, Hon. Mai Mala Buni to interfere with due process and misappropriate funds meant to settle the backlog welfare of ASUU members”.
